Nadrah Naim’s Notes – Mu’min

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
الحمد لله رب العالمين
والصلاة والسلام على أشرف الأنبياء والمرسلين وعلى آله وصحبه أجمعين

This post is about the few sentences that the writer took note of from the talk given by Sheikh Musthofa Al Bugha on the 9th of September 2015 at Al-Muhajirin Mosque, Singapore.

The writer actually can’t remember who translated the speaker’s arabic speech though.

The writer wrote down the follwings in her notebook:
“Bersiar2 org mu’min:
– Bace Hadith
– Taat kepade Allah”

Basically means that the believers way of sightseeing/relaxation/enjoyment is by reading the text of hadith (the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) and by doing acts of obedience to Allah عز وجل.

This came in as an ‘answer’ to the writer’s queries that she had in her head. When she heard it, it is as if everything made sense.

The writer was struggling to try not to indulge in things that are non-beneficial, syubhah or worst, haram. So she tells herself that as a human being, she needs some kind of relaxation. This is indeed true.

Yet the issue arises when the nafs (desire) part wants to do non-beneficial ‘fun’ things yet the other part was saying no. Inevitably, there will always be a constant war between those two. And apparently sometimes (most of the times), the writer indulges in those things because ‘it is not haram’ and because ‘human beings need to relax’.

The few sentences came in as a strong counterpoint to the nafs. Basically asking itself ‘Don’t you want to be a mu’minah? (Believer)’, ‘Don’t you want to raise your standard of living?’, ‘Do you really want to watch all those non-beneficial videos in the name of relaxation?’.

Obviously these things really takes time, practice, effort, strong support, strong willpower etc. Most importantly, the help and the taufeeq of Allah عز وجل.

And it needs to start somewhere. Start leaving the non-beneficial things. Slowly increasing the beneficial things. Planning out the day, plan with a friend etc.

May Allah عز وجل help us to put in us a strong and sincere intention to slowly leave the laghaa. May Allah عز وجل make us busy with things that will benefit us both in this world and in the hereafter. May Allah عز وجل help us in striving to become true believers. May Allah عز وجل put barakah in our lives.

اللهم بارك لنا في رجب وشعبان وبلغنا رمضان

اللهم آمين
